Senior Backend Engineer (Go, Distributed Systems): Building and optimizing large-scale, high-performance distributed systems for the Grafana Mimir OSS project and Grafana Cloud Metrics with an accent on efficiency, resilience, and reliability. Location: Remote from Spain, Germany, the UK or Sweden.

What you will do

• Take an active role in influencing the roadmap and your own career objectives.
• Work with your team to deliver new features and iterate based on results.
• Drive projects from initial idea all the way to operations once in customer hands.
• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, owning their reliability, performance, and availability.
• Be a part of your team’s follow-the-sun on-call rotations and take ownership of services.
• Support other team members, participate in design discussions, and collaborate effectively.

Requirements

• Pragmatism: ability to take on complex challenges, break them down, and deliver iterative solutions.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills in a fully remote setup.
• Solid experience with at least one programming language like Go, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
• Experience delivering projects from gathering requirements to shipping a product in a self-driven way.
• Experience with developing software that runs in the Cloud or with systems engineering.
• Experience with being on-call and following the DevOps model.
• Experience writing clean, robust, and performant software.
• Familiarity with observability systems to debug problems using metrics, logs, and traces.

Nice to have

• Experience working with Kubernetes.
• Experience working with queue systems, e.g., the Kafka protocol.
• Been a user of Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles.
• Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems, or a desire to learn.
• Familiarity with the concept of infrastructure as code.
