TL;DR
Principal Software Engineer (Backend): Building always-on measurement foundations for advertising outcomes in the AI era with an accent on near real-time conversion pipelines and attribution platforms. Location: Must be based within a 50-mile commute of the Redmond, US office (hybrid, expected in office at least 4 days per week).
Salary: $139,900 – $274,800 per year

What you will do
- Lead end-to-end technical strategy and architecture for conversion measurement and attribution.
- Design and drive adoption of cross-service data contracts and patterns for high-volume globally distributed traffic.
- Develop critical components for the near real-time conversion and attribution pipeline.
- Define SLOs/SLIs and operational standards to elevate observability and reduce MTTR.
- Mentor and grow engineers through design reviews and technical coaching.
- Partner with privacy and compliance teams to ensure responsible telemetry data handling.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 6+ years of technical engineering experience with languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and every two years thereafter.
- Experience leading architecture and delivering production systems across multiple services.
- Deep expertise in streaming, near real-time processing, and reliability patterns (SLOs, backpressure, idempotency).
- Experience building high-throughput distributed systems and data platforms.
Nice to have
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
- 8-12+ years of technical engineering experience.
- Experience with ads measurement, conversion tracking, or attribution systems.
- Track record of operational leadership for tier-0/tier-1 services, including incident command.
