Senior Lighting Artist (Stop Motion VFX)

TL;DR

Senior Lighting Artist (Stop Motion VFX): Responsible for the lighting and rendering of complex, photorealistic elements for a feature animated film with an accent on photographic nuance, attention to detail, and collaborative work. Focus on creating rendered images that meet the creative vision and technical standards and developing workflows.

Location: All applicants must be residents of British Columbia, Canada. This role offers the option to work from home or from the Vancouver studio. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada (Citizen, PR, Open Work Permit) and work on Pacific Standard Time.

Salary: $45-$65 per hour.

What you will do

• Engage in sequence and shot lighting looks based on production artwork and collaboration with creative personnel.
• Translate practical lighting setups to CG environments to meet creative vision and technical standards.
• Participate in and take ownership of look development for shots and sequences.
• Incorporate characters, digital objects, set extensions, and environmental effects into scenes.
• Provide technical guidance for quality control of other artists’ work.
• Identify industry innovations and help develop custom tools, templates, and workflows for the lighting team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience lighting high-end photo-real VFX for feature films or television.
• Strong knowledge of lighting principles, tools, and workflows.
• Experience working with Katana.
• Working knowledge of Nuke and compositing principles.
• Understanding of applicable software and platforms including Maya, Houdini, and Renderman.
• Experience with advanced techniques such as Global Illumination, HDRI, and subsurface scattering.
• Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision under tight turnarounds in a multi-tasking environment.

• Basic coding skills (Python, Lua).
