Systems Engineer

TL;DR

Systems Engineer: Responsible for provisioning, configuration management, and operational running of key public-facing systems supporting hirify.global offerings with an accent on automation of system provisioning, OS patching, and compliance in a Linux environment. Focus on supporting servers at scale, troubleshooting complex issues, and maintaining high-traffic production systems.

Location: Hybrid, 2 days a week in London, United Kingdom

What you will do

• Automate system provisioning, OS patching, and compliance in a Linux environment.
• Develop and maintain configuration management scripts and modules using Ansible and Puppet.
• Manage deployments at scale for both on-premise and remote sites.
• Handle the issuance, secure handling, and deployment of x509 certificates.
• Collaborate regularly with neighboring engineering/product groups.
• Provide proactive second-line support for a range of systems and application stacks, including participation in an on-call rota.

Requirements

• Expertise in operating and troubleshooting Linux systems and related command-line tooling.
• Proficiency in Bash and one or more other scripting languages (e.g., Python).
• Experience in Linux system provisioning, with proficiency in configuration management tools such as Ansible/Puppet.
• Sound working knowledge of httpd, NGINX, HTTPS, PKI, DNS, TCP/IP (v4 and v6), and Git.
• Awareness of Site Reliability Engineering principles.
• Ability to work in London, UK, with a hybrid model requiring 2 days a week in the office.

Nice to have

• Some experience of working with Agile (Scrum/Kanban) methodologies.
• Comfortable working with older legacy services with minimal documentation.
• Rudimentary knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
