Member Of Technical Staff Data Engineering Manager (AI)

Data Engineering Manager (AI): Building and optimizing mission-critical data pipelines for personal AI and Copilot systems with an accent on big data processing, templating, and managing senior data engineers. Focus on architecting scalable solutions, fine-tuning AI models, and ensuring data introspection and retrospection for continuous improvement of human-AI interactions.

Location: Hybrid in Mountain View, United States. Expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if residing within 50 miles (U.S.) or 25 miles (non-U.S.) of that location, starting January 26, 2026.

Salary: USD $139,900 – $274,800 per year (or USD $188,000 – $304,200 per year for San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area).

What you will do

• Build scalable data pipelines for sourcing, transforming, and publishing data assets for AI use cases.
• Collaborate with Platform, infrastructure, application engineers, and AI Researchers to build next-generation data platform products and services.
• Ship high-quality, well-tested, secure, and maintainable code.
• Overcome roadblocks to deliver work to users quickly and iteratively.
• Manage a small team of 4 or 5 senior data engineers, focusing on talent management.
• Own engineering and operational excellence for the data platform, including PR reviews, code quality, and engineering productivity.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years of experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering work; OR Master’s Degree and 4+ years of experience; OR equivalent.
• 4+ years of technical engineering experience building data processing applications (batch and streaming) with coding in languages including Python, Java, Spark, SQL.
• Experience working with Apache Hadoop eco system, Kafka, and NoSQL.
• 3+ years of experience with data governance, data compliance, and/or data security.
• 2+ years of experience building scalable services on public cloud infrastructure like Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• 2+ years of experience building distributed systems at scale.
• Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues.
