Senior Software Engineer (AI/Distributed Systems): Building and optimizing one of the world's largest distributed systems to power Bing Search, Copilot Search, and Grounding APIs, with an accent on driving advancements in relevance through cutting-edge deep learning techniques. Focus on constructing a system with a tens-of-billions-level index, an orchestration engine capable of operating within hundreds of milliseconds, and an online GPU inference system for rapid, scalable, and intelligent search.

Location: Suzhou, China. Employees are expected to work from the office at least four days per week if living within a 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific Microsoft office.

What you will do

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand user requirements for service gaps and build efficient functionalities.
• Participate in discussions for product/solution architecture and create proposals, testing design hypotheses.
• Independently create test plans and quality assurance processes, defining success for test outcomes.
• Write extensible and maintainable code, optimizing, debugging, refactoring, and reusing code.
• Review code from other team members to ensure adherence to quality standards.
• Collaborate with scenario owners to facilitate onboarding and offer essential support.
• Deliver efficient toolsets to enhance platform usability, debugging capabilities, and monitoring functionalities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• At least 4 years of experience in designing, developing, and maintaining distributed information management systems.
• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as Azure and Kubernetes (K8s).
• Fluent English speaking and writing.

Nice to have

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years.
• 6+ years of experience in designing, developing, and maintaining distributed computing platforms, with experience in writing high-quality code and conducting code reviews.
• Experience in Bing search or other search engine platform services, or other large-scale platform services.
• Knowledge of deep learning techniques and frameworks and experience in LLM prompt engineering.
