Salary: €4,300 – €6,000 per month

What you will do

• Improve the maintainability and quality of the Python codebase on a systemic level.
• Remove technical debt through modernization, dependency upgrades, and large-scale refactoring (e.g., Pydantic v1 to v2).
• Monitor and optimize the performance of API endpoints and background jobs, including rewriting critical code in Rust.
• Develop security improvements, such as Single Sign-On and authentication token enhancements.
• Collaborate with other development teams to identify systemic bottlenecks and architectural opportunities.
• Improve the correctness and performance of the overall test suite.

Requirements

• Excellent backend development skills in Python.
• Significant experience working on large-scale production codebases.
• Proficiency with typing (mypy) and web technologies.
• Good working knowledge of Linux, git, and the command line.
• Must be based in the Netherlands or willing to relocate to Utrecht.
• Possession of a valid work permit for non-EU citizens.

Nice to have

• Comfortable with SQL and relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL.
• Experience in optimizing performance of database queries and application code.
• Previous experience working with distributed systems.
