TL;DR
Python Software Engineer (Infrastructure): Improving the systemic maintainability and performance of a B2B SaaS Python codebase with an accent on architectural changes, refactoring, and security. Location: Hybrid (Utrecht, Netherlands). Must be based in the Netherlands or be willing to relocate. Valid work permit required for non-EU citizens.
Salary: €4,300 – €6,000 per month

What you will do
- Improve the maintainability and quality of the Python codebase on a systemic level.
- Remove technical debt through modernization, dependency upgrades, and large-scale refactoring (e.g., Pydantic v1 to v2).
- Monitor and optimize the performance of API endpoints and background jobs, including rewriting critical code in Rust.
- Develop security improvements, such as Single Sign-On and authentication token enhancements.
- Collaborate with other development teams to identify systemic bottlenecks and architectural opportunities.
- Improve the correctness and performance of the overall test suite.
Requirements
- Excellent backend development skills in Python.
- Significant experience working on large-scale production codebases.
- Proficiency with typing (mypy) and web technologies.
- Good working knowledge of Linux, git, and the command line.
- Must be based in the Netherlands or willing to relocate to Utrecht.
- Possession of a valid work permit for non-EU citizens.
Nice to have
- Comfortable with SQL and relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL.
- Experience in optimizing performance of database queries and application code.
- Previous experience working with distributed systems.
