TL;DR
Senior Application Architect (Java/Web): Designing and implementing scalable, secure, and maintainable enterprise application architectures using Java and web technologies with an accent on cross-functional collaboration and technical leadership. Focus on driving innovation, continuous improvement, and effective problem-solving for complex systems.
Location: Hybrid in the UK (Cheltenham, Hursley, Manchester, London). Candidates must have the valid right to work in the UK and be a continuous resident for the last 10 years. Visa sponsorship is not offered.

What you will do
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and maintainable enterprise application architectures using Java and web technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to comprehend business and technical requirements, translating them into effective application designs.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior architects and developers, fostering a culture of excellence and knowledge sharing.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in application development practices, staying current with emerging trends.
- Apply strong problem-solving skills to analyze complex systems and identify areas for optimization and improvement.
- Articulate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and understanding of project objectives and progress.
Requirements
- You must have the valid right to work in the UK and have been living continuously in the UK for the last 10 years.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with AWS (Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, CloudFormation) and JavaScript.
- Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale enterprise applications using Java frameworks like Spring and Hibernate, and web technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Angular.
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles and patterns, with practical experience in microservices, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native development.
- Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with a proven track record of articulating technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Nice to have
- Experience with Cypress testing and familiarity with OpenShift containers (Docker) and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Knowledge of data engineering and experience with big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation, using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or CircleCI.
