TL;DR

Lead Application & Product Architect (AI): Defining and driving product and platform architecture for Tax services, focusing on event-driven and workflow-orchestrated designs using Kafka and Temporal. Focus on leading modernization efforts, elevating code quality, and ensuring architectural standards in complex distributed systems.

Location: Hybrid (2 days in office, 3 days at home) from one of the following US offices: Coppell, TX; Tampa, FL; Waltham, MA; Philadelphia, PA; or Austin, TX.

Salary: $107,500–$188,400 USD

What you will do

  • Define and drive product and platform architecture for Tax services, focusing on event-driven and workflow-orchestrated designs.
  • Review and guide .NET application code and solution designs, ensuring quality, security, and performance.
  • Lead modernization efforts, including migration to modular/microservices and adoption of Kafka/Temporal platforms.
  • Own high-risk technical spikes and POCs, accelerating feedback loops with tools like VS Code and GitHub Copilot.
  • Ensure threat modeling and security review artifacts are produced and signed off.
  • Translate complex design tradeoffs into concise executive communication and mentor engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ years in architecture for SaaS products, with prior lead/principal scope in complex distributed systems.
  • Strong hands-on depth with .NET (C#, ASP.NET Core, API design), code review, refactoring, and performance profiling.
  • Proven delivery of modernization programs (monolith to modular/microservices, event-driven patterns, API first, cloud native).
  • Practical experience with Kafka (Confluent preferred) and Temporal (or equivalent workflow engines).
  • Expertise in architecture qualities (availability, scalability, security, resilience, cost) and observability.
  • Excellent written & verbal English communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience in Tax or adjacent accounting domains.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud services (Azure/AWS), container platforms, CI/CD, and IaC.
  • Familiarity with application security practices (OWASP, STRIDE).
