Senior Software Development Engineer In Test (SDET) Backend: Develop and maintain automated backend platform-level testing infrastructure focusing on reliability, performance, and scalability of distributed systems. Location: Hybrid in Chicago, USA with 1-2 days onsite per week

Salary: $100,000 - $140,000 per annum

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and execute backend platform-level functional and non-functional tests for distributed services.
  • Build and maintain performance testing infrastructure and automation frameworks.
  • Create automated tools for sizing measurements and deployment simulations.
  • Collaborate with backend engineers to define test strategies and integrate QA throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Drive adoption of best practices in QA automation and performance engineering.
  • Mentor team members on advanced testing and automation development.

Requirements

  • Based in Chicago with hybrid work availability (1-2 days onsite per week).
  • 5+ years experience as SDET or QA engineer focused on backend/platform testing.
  • Strong programming skills in Java, Go, Python, or Bash for custom test automation.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud deployments, Docker, Kubernetes, and backend technologies like Kafka, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Keycloak.
  • Proficiency with performance testing tools and CI/CD integration.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
