Senior/Staff Software Engineer (Motion Planning)

Location: Hybrid in Foster City, California or Boston, Massachusetts

Salary: $254,000–$350,000 per year base salary

Zoox is developing a fully autonomous vehicle fleet and the supporting mobility ecosystem for urban environments.

What you will do

• Create and implement algorithmic improvements to autonomous driving behavior.
• Use backend tooling to test planner changes across diverse driving scenarios.
• Lead on-vehicle drive reviews and turn driving-performance observations into actionable improvements.
• Collaborate with experts in planning, perception, prediction, operations, and related autonomy disciplines.
• Conduct research, attend conferences, survey robotics and motion-planning literature, and file patents for novel technologies.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and 8+ years of experience.
• Fluency in C++.
• Understanding of configuration spaces and planning techniques such as A*, RRTs, and PRMs.
• Experience creating real-time motion-planning algorithms.

Nice to have

• Significant contributions to geometric- or sampling-based planning algorithms.
• Experience with autonomous robots, machine learning, or data-driven development.
• Experience with ROS, pose estimation, SLAM, probabilistic filtering, 3D data, or CUDA.
