Product Engineering Lead Heartbeat Australia (m/f/d) (Climate Tech)

Location: Sydney, Australia. Regular overlap with German working hours is required, with potential meetings at unusual times.

hirify.global is building an integrated renewable energy system using Heartbeat AI to coordinate solar, batteries, heat pumps, air conditioning, and EV charging through a virtual power plant.

What you will do

• Provide technical direction for Heartbeat AI in Australia and remain accountable for quality and delivery.
• Localize the energy management system for Australian tariffs and market structures.
• Design technical solutions from business and product requirements and communicate their business impact.
• Collaborate with Australian teams, German product and engineering teams, and external partners.
• Set the technical bar, solve the hardest engineering problems hands-on, and help shape the local team, hiring, and mentoring.
• Build AI-assisted development and agentic engineering workflows with safe execution and human accountability.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience in a fast-paced, scalable environment.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers or technical teams; formal line management experience is beneficial.
• Hands-on depth in distributed systems and cloud, including API and integration design.
• Experience with data-intensive, IoT, or energy-related systems.
• Strong written and spoken English, including the ability to explain technical decisions in business terms.
• Experience enabling AI-assisted engineering workflows.
• Based in Sydney and able to cover regular overlap with German working hours.

Nice to have

• Climate tech or energy industry experience, ideally with knowledge of the Australian electricity market and tariffs.
• Experience as an early engineering hire or building a team in a new region.
