Trainee Director, Bargain Hunt

Location: Cardiff, Roath Lock; part of the working week in the office, in-person editing in Cardiff Bay, and filming on location across the UK.

What you will do

• Develop the programme from commissioned proposal through full production and shape the visual look and feel of several episodes.
• Script and direct factual television episodes, including simple sequences with presenters, experts, contributors, and crews.
• Coordinate directorial, research, production management, technical, and facility resources while working within financial constraints and production schedules.
• Collaborate with the Series Producer, Series Editor, senior editorial staff, and wider production team to finalise accurate scripts and complete edits.
• Ensure content reflects the diversity of British society and complies with hirify.global editorial and legal guidelines.

Requirements

• Substantial experience as an Assistant Producer or at a similar level in factual television production, including work with on-screen talent and contributors during busy location filming days.
• Some experience writing scripts and directing simple television sequences, with demonstrable creative visual flair.
• Understanding of television editing, with some edit experience desirable.
• Strong writing skills and the ability to originate creative programme ideas.
• Ability to use appropriate cameras, filming techniques, archive, and other tools to realise editorial visions.
• Understanding of narrative and ability to create entertaining, factually accurate scripts and direct crews.
• Ability to locate and clear suitable archive material.
• Knowledge of hirify.global output, competitors, audience needs, hirify.global editorial and legal guidelines, and accurate representation of under-represented communities.
