Senior Controls Engineer (PLC)

Location: Marion, North Carolina, United States of America; onsite manufacturing environment

Base salary: $96,000–$132,000 annually, with potential discretionary bonuses.

What you will do

• Develop, implement, troubleshoot, and support PLC projects, equipment, control systems, and automation solutions.
• Design, install, start up, test, and validate new equipment and systems, including engineering studies, experiments, data analysis, and test batches.
• Support manufacturing regulatory compliance, validation protocols, NCR/CAPA investigations, change controls, operating instructions, and continuous improvement projects.
• Provide technical support, training, and subject-matter expertise to production and service teams.
• Coordinate internal and external multifunctional teams on existing and new product-line projects.
• Establish and control capital operating budgets and lead equipment or process problem-solving efforts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field required; Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering preferred.
• 3+ years of PLC experience, including Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, PLC5, SLC500, CompactLogix, and Safety PLCs.
• Allen-Bradley HMI experience and knowledge of TCP/IP, RS-232, Profibus, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Fieldbus, and HSSB communications.
• Hands-on electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills; knowledge of Category 3 Safety Systems, E-Plan P8, AutoCAD, and electrical schematic reading and drawing.
• Experience with servo and VFD drives, motion control, encoders, hydraulics, pneumatics, and servo control systems.
• Experience with Fanuc and Yaskawa robotics and Cognex and Keyence vision systems.
• Strong leadership and project management skills, plus knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and validation protocol execution.

• Experience in a regulated industry.
• Programming experience with C#, C++, VB, or SQL Server.
