Senior Project Controls Estimator (Energy Infrastructure)

Location: San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston, USA; full-time onsite except bi-weekly WFH Fridays. Exceptions may be considered for exceptional candidates outside these hubs.

What you will do

• Own cost control and forecasting across a portfolio of capital construction projects, including budgets, commitments, cost-to-complete forecasts, and variance analysis.
• Build and maintain integrated project schedules, monitor progress, identify critical path risks, and communicate schedule impacts.
• Develop earned value management reporting and produce weekly and monthly performance reports for Finance and executive leadership.
• Manage change control, including change orders, cost and schedule impacts, documentation, and baseline updates.
• Coordinate with Procurement and Accounts Payable to align contractor invoices, purchase orders, accruals, and project budgets.
• Standardize project controls tools and processes while identifying portfolio trends, risks, and opportunities.

Requirements

• 5+ years of project controls experience on large capital projects in energy, construction, infrastructure, utilities, or industrial sectors.
• Proficiency with cost management and scheduling tools such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent, plus advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
• Strong understanding of earned value management principles and their use in capital project reporting.
• Experience developing cost forecasts, managing change control, and producing executive-level project performance reports.
• Ability to work across Engineering, Construction, and Finance stakeholders and translate technical project data into financial language and vice versa.
• High analytical rigor and the ability to manage large, complex datasets accurately.
• Strong communication skills for presenting financial and schedule risks clearly to senior leadership.

Nice to have

• Experience in utility-scale power generation, high-voltage electrical infrastructure, or data center construction.
• Familiarity with AACE International cost engineering standards or similar frameworks.
• Experience establishing a project controls function in an early-stage startup or greenfield environment.
• Experience preparing budgetary and preliminary CAPEX estimates at ±20–30% accuracy, and definitive and control-level CAPEX estimates ranging from ±10–15% to ±5–10% accuracy.
• Working knowledge of construction cost estimating tools, databases, benchmarks, and norms across capital project development stages.
• Exposure to ERP systems such as NetSuite or SAP and their integration with project cost tracking.
• Background in Finance, Accounting, or Engineering in addition to project controls experience.
