Senior Power Plant Modeller (Fusion)

Location: hirify.global Culham, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom; regular onsite presence required for 3 days in any given week

Salary: £57,117 per year, inclusive of a £5,800 Specialist Allowance

What you will do

• Lead studies of complete fusion power plant concepts and inform design decisions.
• Develop and improve power plant modelling software, mainly in Python using PROCESS and BLUEMIRA.
• Build integrated models of fusion power plant systems and evaluate how different components interact.
• Work with experts in plasma physics, materials, mechanical engineering, fuel cycles and plant systems.
• Provide technical guidance on complex modelling problems and integrate advances in fusion physics, technology and systems modelling.
• Build national and international partnerships, publish research findings and present at scientific conferences.

Requirements

• PhD in a relevant STEM or scientific modelling discipline, or equivalent experience in a structured research environment with a substantial track record of technical achievement.
• Extensive experience in scientific modelling, including resolving complex technical challenges and applying independent technical judgement.
• Demonstrable software development experience in at least one language used in scientific or engineering applications, such as Python.
• Substantial experience leading technical projects, including resource allocation, developing colleagues and strengthening technical capability.
• Proven ability to communicate complex technical work through high-quality reports, scientific publications and professional engagement.
