Senior Software Engineer (Location Services)

Location: Hybrid, one day per week in the office and four days working from home, based at a hirify.global US office in Dallas, Austin, Irvine, or San Diego.

Annual pay range: $111,900–$160,000 USD.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, low-latency, highly available backend services for the Location Services platform.
• Lead component-level design and delivery of geospatial features, APIs, and microservices from specification through production.
• Apply geospatial expertise to data modeling, spatial indexing, querying, processing, location accuracy, data quality, security, and performance.
• Collaborate with product managers, data engineers, infrastructure teams, and partner engineering teams on integrations and technical guidance.
• Implement observability, monitoring, alerting, automated testing, CI/CD, and reliability practices; participate in on-call support and root-cause analysis.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through pairing, design discussions, and code reviews.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including production backend systems.
• Hands-on geospatial experience and experience building or supporting location-based services, mapping platforms, or spatial data pipelines in production.
• Experience designing and building scalable distributed systems and RESTful or gRPC APIs.
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages, such as Java, C++, Python, or Go.
• Experience building and deploying cloud-native applications using platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with real-time or near-real-time location processing pipelines.
• Familiarity with geospatial tools and standards such as GDAL, GeoServer, OGC standards, and GeoJSON.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with asynchronous messaging and data streaming, such as Kafka or Pub/Sub.
• Experience with performance tuning, load testing, and reliability engineering.
