Project Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; onsite

Salary: $85,000–$130,000 per year, plus annual bonus and equity.

Atom Computing develops quantum computers using arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms to support advanced computational applications.

What you will do

• Support the operation and upgrades of existing neutral-atom quantum computing hardware.
• Support research projects advancing the quantum computing roadmap.
• Own detailed design, build, and integration schedules and coordinate milestone completion with program management.
• Coordinate daily technical workflows across physics, optics, software, systems, and hardware engineering teams.
• Manage risk registers, rolling action item logs, review cadences, and technical bottleneck mitigation.
• Document lessons learned from hardware integration and testing to improve future scheduling, resource allocation, and workflows.

Requirements

• BS or MS in engineering, physics, optics, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
• At least 1 year of experience in product engineering, systems engineering, quantum, and/or R&D project management at multidisciplinary deep-tech companies.
• Ability to work autonomously across cross-functional teams with critical thinking and technical leadership.
• Expertise in project organization, multitasking, and tracking complex hardware deliverables.
• Experience proposing continuous process improvements while maintaining engineering design standards and schedule commitments.
• Strong technical acumen and analytical problem-solving skills for complex, low-volume, or R&D-integrated hardware systems.
• Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills in fast-paced deep-tech environments.
• Clear written documentation and verbal communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, or MS Project.
