Senior Machine Learning (ML) Engineer (CCC Casualty / Claims Intelligence)

Location: Chicago, IL or Remote

Salary: $180,000–$225,000 annually; bonus eligible.

What you will do

• Own machine learning models and evaluations end to end within a problem area and turn results into product decisions.
• Build and ship statistical, ML, and hybrid LLM models, including retrieval and embeddings, using real claims data.
• Design gold datasets and continuously run evaluations with data labelers and subject matter experts.
• Measure product impact through experiments, baselines, and ROI analysis, and explain findings to product, sales, and customers.
• Develop AI-native products for medical bills, claims decision support, and an agentic rules and evaluation platform for auto casualty claims.

Requirements

• Typically 5+ years of experience in machine learning, data science, or quantitative engineering roles.
• Strong quantitative foundation in statistics, probability, and experiment design through a degree, research, or equivalent experience.
• Strong Python and SQL skills, with a track record of taking models to production and measuring their performance.
• Hands-on experience with statistical ML and LLM-based approaches, including RAG, embeddings, vector search, and evaluation of LLM outputs.
• Real experience using AI-assisted tools to work faster, with examples that can be explained in detail.
• A video interview is required; interviews are transcribed and may be reviewed by CCC and its recruiters.
• Generative AI or automated assistance is not permitted during interviews unless explicitly allowed for a specific exercise.

Nice to have

• Causal inference, survival analysis, or calibration methods applied to business decisions.
• Experience fine-tuning models for domain-specific tasks.
