Data Center Energy Lead (AI Infrastructure)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; Remote-Friendly US with travel required. Staff are expected to be in one of the offices at least 25% of the time.

What you will do

• Lead energy procurement and power-market strategy to secure multi-hundred-megawatt capacity for AI infrastructure.
• Build utility, ISO/RTO, transmission-operator, regulator, policymaker, and equipment-vendor relationships across multiple jurisdictions.
• Develop energy policy and market strategies to address grid capacity constraints and accelerate critical-infrastructure approvals.
• Translate utility constraints and energy-market dynamics into capacity acceleration strategies aligned with project timelines.
• Analyze regional power availability, transmission constraints, and interconnection queues to inform site selection and deployment.
• Structure commercial frameworks and partnerships that accelerate power delivery and mitigate grid-capacity risks.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in energy procurement, utility development, or power markets for large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Deep expertise in wholesale power markets, utility interconnection processes, and transmission system planning.
• Experience securing 100+ MW of power capacity and navigating utility service agreements, power purchase agreements, or other offtake structures.
• Proficiency analyzing energy-market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and grid constraints for strategic decision-making.
• Strong stakeholder-management skills and experience working with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, regulators, policymakers, and critical-equipment vendors.
• Excellent communication skills, including translating complex grid and regulatory dynamics into actionable strategies for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
• Must work from the United States and meet the office-presence requirement; travel is required.

Nice to have

• Energy-procurement experience for datacenters, high-performance computing, or AI/ML infrastructure.
• Familiarity with hyperscale infrastructure and the power demands of large-scale AI training and inference workloads.
• Experience in regulatory affairs, energy-policy advocacy, or engagement with FERC and state PUCs.
• Background in transmission planning, interconnection studies, or grid-capacity analysis.
• Understanding of energy storage, demand response, and distributed energy resources.
• Experience structuring solutions to overcome grid constraints and compressed timelines in competitive power markets.
