Principal AI Platform Engineer

What you will do

• Define and evolve the reference architecture for the enterprise AI control plane, paved-road services, SDKs, templates, and developer experience.
• Design and build a multi-provider model gateway with routing, failover, quotas, rate limiting, tenant isolation, key management, token accounting, and cost allocation.
• Deliver GenAI runtime capabilities including model serving, RAG, context and memory stores, vector and hybrid search, sandboxed execution, secrets brokering, and MCP-style interoperability.
• Own registries for models, agents, prompts, and tools, including versioning, lineage, approvals, promotion gates, deprecation, and auditability.
• Build observability, traceability, evaluation, quality, drift, latency, cost, security, guardrail, privacy, and responsible-AI controls.
• Lead platform engineering practices, architecture reviews, production coding, SLOs, incident response, roadmap decisions, and the hiring and development of a 3–8-person engineering team.

Requirements

• 10–15+ years of software engineering, platform engineering, distributed systems, or infrastructure experience, including significant technical leadership.
• Hands-on experience designing and operating enterprise AI/GenAI platforms or comparable developer, data, or ML platforms in production.
• Strong Python skills plus at least one of TypeScript, Go, or Java; experience with APIs, distributed systems, testing, code review, and secure SDLC.
• Deep understanding of model gateways, GenAI runtimes, RAG, agent registries, evaluation, observability, traceability, guardrails, identity, and platform governance.
• Experience with containers and orchestration, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, cloud services, secrets management, production SLOs, and on-call practices.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
• Ability to lead technical decisions, influence across teams, communicate with senior stakeholders, and manage a growing engineering team.

Nice to have

• Experience with enterprise GenAI or agent platforms, multi-model routing, agent registries, prompt management, evaluation harnesses, or GenAI tracing.
• Experience in health tech, med-tech, life sciences, or other highly regulated environments with GxP, HIPAA, validation, auditability, and change-control constraints.
• Experience implementing security, responsible-AI, privacy, policy, and cost or FinOps controls for shared AI infrastructure.
• Experience with MCP, OpenTelemetry, Kubernetes, and cloud-native platform engineering practices.
