Research Engineer - Innovation Team (M/F) (Space Propulsion)

Location: Verrières-le-Buisson, France; temporarily remote

hirify.global develops, industrializes, and mass-produces electric space propulsion systems for satellites below 150 kg, including iodine-fueled RF ion thrusters.

What you will do

• Plan, execute, and document development and qualification tests from system requirements, including test conditions and pass/fail criteria.
• Develop test setups, select instrumentation, and automate measurements and data acquisition.
• Prepare prototypes, troubleshoot hardware, investigate failures, and collaborate with design engineers.
• Analyze test data and measurement uncertainty, and report results against requirements.
• Maintain vacuum facilities and test equipment, keeping instruments calibrated and ready.
• Transfer validated test methods and results to the Product Team for production.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or equivalent in aerospace engineering or a related field.
• At least 3 years of relevant industry or academic experience focused on research.
• Understanding of vacuum technology and experience testing complex equipment under vacuum.
• Ability to read electronic schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Practical skills in mechanical assembly, repair, debugging, instrumentation, measurement automation, and data analysis.
• Evidence of independently solving unfamiliar engineering problems and taking responsibility for the outcome.

Nice to have

• Experience planning and conducting space hardware qualification campaigns, including vibration, shock, and thermal cycling tests.
• EMC or radiation testing experience with space hardware.
• Familiarity with ECSS or comparable space hardware testing standards.
• Experience with engineering simulation tools such as COMSOL.
• Background in electronics, fluidics, chemistry, or precision mechanisms.
• Experience transferring development test methods into production.
• Personal engineering projects or other hands-on work demonstrating curiosity and initiative.
