Assistant Financial Controller (Reinsurance)

Location: Minneapolis, United States; hybrid

Salary: $125,000–$165,000 per year, with potential performance-based incentives.

What you will do

• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close cycles and ensure accurate financial statements under U.S. GAAP and corporate policies.
• Coordinate federal, state, and international tax returns, tax provisions, and deferred tax accounting with external advisors.
• Manage external audit coordination and develop, implement, and monitor internal controls.
• Oversee daily financial activities across the General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, and Treasury.
• Lead finance transformation and business projects while coaching and developing accounting staff.
• Partner with Finance, Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, and other functions to improve processes and organizational performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
• Preferred 5–10 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting controls.
• Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
• Experience coordinating audits and supporting tax compliance activities.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
• Project management and process improvement experience.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
• Experience in insurance, reinsurance, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
• FinOp experience and FINRA Series 27, Series 28, or Series 99 qualifications.
• Experience with ERP implementations, finance transformation, and system integration projects.
• Knowledge of SOX compliance, internal controls, and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Experience with Workday, Power BI, Qlik, Infor Q&A, or similar financial reporting and analytics tools.
