Ground Systems Engineer II - Fluids

Location: Wallops Island, Virginia, United States; onsite work supporting launch-pad ground systems.

Salary: $87,000–$120,000 USD base salary annually; total compensation including equity is $94,000–$133,000 annually.

What you will do

• Design fluid systems covering cryogenics, hydraulics, fuels, high-pressure gases, and HVAC.
• Create 2D and 3D models using NX CAD and perform system sizing through hand calculations and numerical methods.
• Generate and maintain P&IDs, connection diagrams, and other fluid/process system schematics.
• Select and develop components, maintain bills of materials, and collaborate with suppliers, technicians, and internal teams.
• Support certification of Neutron launch-pad fluid systems and development of maintenance programs.
• Contribute to design, build, activation, and commissioning activities for systems operating in harsh and hazardous environments.

Requirements

• ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 2+ years of directly applicable design, testing, and/or operations experience in the aerospace or industrial sectors.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to perform required design calculations with limited guidance from senior engineers.
• Knowledge of fluid systems, sizing calculations, and P&IDs.
• Proficiency with CAD software, specifically NX and SolidWorks.
• For work in US offices, must be a US citizen, lawful US permanent resident, lawfully admitted refugee or asylee, or eligible to obtain required US government authorizations under ITAR.
• The role may require prolonged sitting, standing, walking, computer work, and occasional exposure to moderate noise, dust, and fumes in production areas.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Professional Engineer license and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, autonomous environment.
• Experience with piping systems, launch pads, engine test stands, or similar industrial systems.
• Experience with rocket or payload conditioning systems and equipment for use with oxygen.
• Experience with nodal analysis tools such as GFSSP or AFT and pipe stress software such as Caesar II.
• Experience with ASME, ASTM, NFPA, and/or NASA ground system standards.
