Freelance Digital Writer - Editor (Sports)

Location: Hybrid role in Stamford, Connecticut, United States; must be willing to work in Stamford and have authorization to work in the United States.

What you will do

• Write, edit, package, publish, and distribute SEO-optimized sports articles, headlines, captions, tournament coverage, and news content.
• Create and manage Golf Channel and USA Sports content across websites, apps, social media, mobile platforms, and brand-specific pages.
• Publish and manage video content and livestream presentations on the Golf Channel site and Sports App.
• Use editorial judgment, analytics, and performance metrics to increase reach, discovery, engagement, and traffic.
• Plan coverage strategies around key properties and tentpole events while coordinating linear broadcast and digital teams.
• Pitch content ideas, support partner-platform relationships, and assist with sales and sponsored content.

Requirements

• BA or BS from a four-year accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
• 2–3 years of experience in digital editorial, content creation, and distribution at a sports or media company, publisher, or content agency.
• Strong writing, editing, copy editing, content packaging, grammar, fact-checking, and self-editing skills.
• Strong familiarity with golf, including its news, leagues, events, and intricacies; ability to write for basketball, volleyball, soccer, and other sports.
• Experience with CMS platforms, SEO basics, analytics dashboards, digital storytelling, audience development, and distribution best practices.
• Solid editorial judgment across multiple digital properties and familiarity with digital ecosystems and technical platforms.
• Clear communication, collaboration, organization, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize across concurrent leagues, events, and timelines.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle live-event coverage, flexible hours, evenings, and weekends.
• Must be at least 18 years old, authorized to work in the United States, and willing to work in Stamford, CT.

• Demonstrated knowledge of golf and strong interest in golf.
• Strong understanding of SEO principles and publishing.
• Strong organizational and communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment.
