What you will do

• Build LLM pipelines that extract structured data from long, unstructured legal documents.
• Choose between agentic harnesses and constrained step-by-step pipelines, then build the appropriate solution.
• Validate model outputs against schemas, allowed values, and business rules while handling failures without silently losing records.
• Design ground-truth evaluations, select metrics, perform error analysis, and communicate results.
• Use AI coding assistants daily to build, test, and review code.
• Maintain pipeline stability through model version pinning, regression test sets, prompt versioning, and guidance on future fine-tuning use cases.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of applied ML, data science, or AI engineering experience, including 2+ years building production or near-production LLM applications.
• Strong Python skills, including pandas or PySpark data work.
• Solid ML fundamentals, including classification, train/test splits, overfitting, data leakage, and model selection.
• Hands-on evaluation experience with precision, recall, F1, confusion matrices, class imbalance, and labeled ground truth.
• Production experience with LLM APIs, structured output, tool calling, prompt design, agent harnesses, schemas such as Pydantic or JSON Schema, retries, and exception handling.
• Hands-on experience running ML or LLM workloads on Databricks or AWS, Azure, or GCP, including relevant data pipelines, hosted model services, or MLflow tracking.
• Daily use of AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.
• AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer - Associate or equivalent cloud ML certification; active AWS Certified Machine Learning - Specialty also qualifies.
• Eligibility to obtain a USPTO Public Trust and authorization to work in the U.S.

Nice to have

• Databricks Jobs, Delta Lake, MLflow, Unity Catalog, PyTorch, fine-tuning small language models, or training LoRA adapters.
• AWS and Amazon Bedrock experience.
• Information extraction from scanned or long documents, including OCR and layout analysis.
• Retrieval-augmented generation, vector databases, and MLOps.
• Enterprise AI gateway experience with cost tracking and request filtering.
• Additional Databricks, AWS, or equivalent cloud certifications.
• USPTO, PTAB, patent, legal data, federal government contract, or FISMA Moderate experience.
