Public Sector Solutions Intern (Insurance and Risk Management)

Location: Zurich, Switzerland; hybrid work with an expectation of at least three office days per week. The six-month internship is scheduled to start ideally in January 2027. Non-EU/EFTA and UK citizens must provide a certificate from a Swiss university confirming that the internship is integral to their course of study.

What you will do

• Conduct market research, stakeholder mapping, financial and loss-history analysis, and analysis of relevant risks and trends.
• Research public insurance tenders, identify opportunities, and support public tender strategy in selected European markets.
• Prepare client meetings, briefings, pitch materials, logistics, discussion records and follow-up actions for governments, municipalities and international organisations.
• Own at least one innovative insurance project, such as developing a parametric solution for a municipality, coordinating with Technical Sales, Reinsurance, Underwriting and Legal.
• Plan and deliver a hirify.global event for selected Swiss public-sector clients in H1 2027, including concept, speakers, participants, content and internal coordination.
• Support business development, pipeline management and internal and external materials.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master's degree, preferably in economics, finance, business, public policy, political science, risk management or a related field.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to structure, interpret and present financial, market and stakeholder information clearly.
• Fluency in German and English, written and spoken, is required.
• Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, including translating complex information into concise content for diverse audiences.
• Interest in climate and natural catastrophe risk and its intersection with public policy and financial solutions.
• Previous public-sector experience, ideally in disaster risk management, or experience in re/insurance.
• Self-starter with strong organisational skills and a structured approach to managing multiple workstreams.
• Curiosity about client needs and relevant insurance products.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with insurance, reinsurance or risk-transfer concepts, including parametric insurance.
• Italian or other European languages.
• Collaborative mindset and confidence engaging stakeholders across functions and seniority levels.
