Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (AI/AWS)

Location: Berlin, Germany; requires 30–50% travel

What you will do

• Lead technical strategy and execution across complex, multi-workstream enterprise AI customer engagements.
• Design and build production-scale AI architectures, including multi-agent orchestration, enterprise retrieval systems, and decision intelligence platforms.
• Define operational standards, evaluation frameworks, testing strategies, observability standards, incident response playbooks, and production readiness criteria.
• Create reusable engineering patterns, accelerators, and platforms that reduce customer AI time-to-value.
• Contribute to interviewing and hiring, mentor junior Forward Deployed Engineers, and coach others on system design, customer engagement, and production operations.
• Identify opportunities to expand AI adoption and feed engagement learnings back into AWS services and the FDE practice.

Requirements

• Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or engineering team leader.
• Professional, non-internship software development experience, including development within the last 3 years.
• Programming experience in at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C#, including object-oriented design.
• Experience leading architecture and design for new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
• Experience communicating technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, including senior stakeholders.
• Experience leading agentic and spec-driven development at production scale; developing AI agents is a plus.
• Experience with AI tools, including evaluation frameworks, agent tooling, RAG pipelines, and prompt engineering.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Experience with AWS Services and building or deploying AI/ML applications at enterprise production scale.
• Founder, engineering lead, or startup-builder background with high ownership and urgency.
• Experience architecting and delivering complex, multi-component systems in customer production environments.
• Experience with React, TypeScript, Python, and/or Go.
• Experience leading customer-facing technical projects or managing external stakeholder relationships.
• 3+ years of experience in an Agile, startup, or rapidly scaling environment.
