Manager of Software Engineering

Salary: $135,000–$200,000 annual

What you will do

• Manage a team of five software engineers through one-on-ones, team meetings, career planning, mentorship, and growth support.
• Own team allocation planning, sprint execution, resourcing, status reporting, and predictable department-level delivery.
• Document and improve engineering processes, including cross-training, CI/CD, and tooling.
• Provide technical oversight, facilitate peer reviews, and track portfolio risk and burn-down.
• Recruit, interview, and onboard engineers as the team grows.
• Coordinate software delivery with hardware, firmware, product, program, and leadership teams.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. person as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), because the role requires access to export-controlled information.
• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 7–10 years of software engineering experience with C++ and Python, at a Software Engineer III/IV-equivalent level.
• 2+ years of experience leading, managing, or directing a software team.
• Experience with agile practices, sprint planning, scrumming, and status reporting to program or project stakeholders.
• Ability to manage shifting priorities and team workload while maintaining consistent execution.
• Experience defining, documenting, and improving engineering processes; strong code review instincts and experience tracking portfolio risk and burn-down.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including translating technical details into useful leadership and program updates.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, and modern engineering tooling; strong independent problem-solving and cross-functional alignment skills.
