Video Script Writer (Technical)

Location: New York, New York, USA; hybrid workplace with three days per week in the office

Salary: $105,600–$132,000 USD per year, plus equity and possible variable compensation

What you will do

• Create briefs, outlines, storyboards, and scripts for technical explainers, feature roundups, podcast-style conversations, and other original videos.
• Collaborate with video producers, product managers, product marketing managers, technical advocacy, and engineers.
• Write companion YouTube descriptions, blog posts, and social content.
• Use AI tools for outlining, research, development, and video-editing workflows.
• Identify visual elements and record precise screen captures of Datadog products and features.
• Support post-production, including video editing, sound mixing, and closed captioning.

Requirements

• Video storytelling ability demonstrated through writing samples and a portfolio of past work.
• Hands-on video editing experience and proficiency with software such as Premiere or Final Cut Pro.
• Experience with motion graphics tools such as After Effects and AI tools supporting video editing.
• Ability to take initiative and manage multiple concurrent projects with limited supervision.
• 2–5 years of experience writing scripts for a technology company or working as a technical journalist.
• Understanding of how software is developed and run in production, including application performance monitoring and addressing security risks.

• Experience as a technical advocate or engineer.
