Staff Engineer, Manufacturing (Battery Manufacturing)

Base pay: $151,000–$191,000 per year

What you will do

• Provide day-to-day technical support for equipment and processes on the pilot manufacturing line, troubleshooting operational challenges.
• Lead improvement projects focused on throughput, equipment reliability, performance, quality, and safety.
• Scale synthesis, coating, thermal, and material handling processes from bench and laboratory scale to pilot and high-volume manufacturing.
• Develop equipment concepts, 3D CAD models, detailed GD&T drawings, sizing calculations, and functional specifications for custom automated equipment.
• Lead contract manufacturing transfers by mapping critical-to-quality process parameters to vendor equipment, tooling, and automation specifications.
• Architect, design, and commission first-of-a-kind manufacturing systems and collaborate with scientists, engineers, technicians, and external equipment integrators.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment, or fewer with an advanced degree.
• BS in mechanical engineering or a similar engineering field preferred.
• Strong equipment design expertise, including advanced 3D CAD modeling, drawing standards and GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and sizing of actuators, pumps, gearboxes, and vacuum or pressure vessels.
• Technical understanding of complex production equipment and processes, with the ability to troubleshoot independently, solve problems, analyze data, and manage statistical process control charts.
• Experience using statistical software to analyze experimental data, identify trends, and make data-backed decisions.
• Experience managing turnkey equipment builders and custom automation vendors from initial scope through FAT, SAT, and commissioning.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, work autonomously with minimal guidance, operate comfortably in ambiguity, and proactively create workflows and manufacturing process structure.
• Must pass a respirator fit test and periodically wear respiratory protection.
• Must wear required personal protective equipment and be able to move items up to 50 lbs with lift equipment and carts and walk long distances between buildings.
