Software Engineer, Infrastructure Engineering

Location: Remote - United States

Salary: $164,000–$229,000 USD base salary per year, plus potential equity and, depending on the position, commission.

What you will do

• Partner with Product Management, Product Design, Data Science, and iOS, Android, and Web engineers to translate user and business needs into reliable, low-latency technical solutions.
• Own major initiatives end to end, including technical design documents, API contracts, development, testing, rollout, and observability.
• Design, build, and evaluate A/B experiments using tools such as BigQuery, HEX, or Firebase to analyze user behavior, conversion funnels, and retention.
• Build and maintain scalable GraphQL, REST, and gRPC APIs and distributed backend services optimized for client consumption and UI performance.
• Drive high-leverage projects and improve architecture around authentication, authorization, and identity.
• Establish engineering practices, improve developer workflows, mentor teammates, and collaborate across Reddit Engineering.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building internet-scale software, preferably focused on distributed systems infrastructure or infrastructure security.
• Software development experience in one or more general-purpose languages: Golang, Python, C++, or Java.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure including Kubernetes, CI/CD, AWS, or GCP.
• Hands-on experience implementing features, optimizations, and bug fixes for distributed messaging systems.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with engineering, data science, machine learning, and product stakeholders.
• Degree in Computer Science or an equivalent technical field.
