Senior Engineer, 5G NTN Integration & Verification, meoSphere (5G NTN)

Location: Betzdorf, Luxembourg or Long Beach, California, US; at least 60% onsite and national and international travel required.

Salary: $98,775–$144,900 for the full-time position in the US.

What you will do

• Define and execute end-to-end integration, verification, and interoperability test campaigns for the 5G gNB software stack deployed on onboard processor hardware.
• Review gNB capabilities and adapt 3GPP terrestrial test cahirify.global into a Delta Test Plan for non-terrestrial network conditions.
• Build, commission, and operate test benches using UE emulators and channel simulators representative of MEO propagation.
• Perform root-cause analysis of L2/L3 protocol failures using protocol traces in laboratory and live-network-like environments.
• Validate RRM and handover logic, including RRC and SDAP timing behaviour under MEO dynamics.
• Contribute to 5G-NTN verification methodologies by connecting standards intent with real payload behaviour.

Requirements

• Degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical, telecommunications, physics, or a related engineering field.
• Deep hands-on expertise in 5G NR signalling and L2/L3 protocols, including RRC, SDAP, PDCP, and MAC, with the ability to analyse raw protocol traces.
• Strong understanding of 5G SA/NSA architectures, Cloud RAN, vRAN, and their application to non-terrestrial networks.
• Proven experience with 5G-NTN technologies and the effects of latency, Doppler, and propagation dynamics on system behaviour.
• Experience owning integration, verification, and interoperability strategies, including adapting 3GPP terrestrial test cahirify.global for space-based systems.
• Hands-on experience creating and operating realistic end-to-end test environments with UE emulators and channel simulators.
• Experience troubleshooting complex multi-layer issues and performing root-cause analysis in laboratory or live-network-like conditions.
• Practical experience with RF test equipment such as Keysight or Rohde & Schwarz and protocol analysis tools such as Wireshark.
• Prior 4G/5G RAN rollout, integration, or verification experience with a system-level perspective.
• Eligibility for ESA, EU, NATO, or national SECRET personnel security clearance and willingness to undergo the clearance procedure.

Nice to have

• Experience with spaceborne or embedded processing platforms involving performance, determinism, and hardware constraints.
• Exposure to MEO or LEO satellite systems or experience extending terrestrial communications into non-terrestrial domains.
• Experience with early-stage system bring-up where specifications are evolving.
• Experience collaborating across payload, RF, hardware, and systems engineering disciplines.
