Senior Satcom System Engineer (5G NTN), IRIS2

Location: Betzdorf, Luxembourg. At least 60% onsite work from the office is required; travel may be required for project realization.

What you will do

• Contribute to the system architecture and design of the MEO satellite communications system across space, ground, and user segments.
• Design, specify, and integrate main and hosted payloads, including antennas, amplifiers, and processors.
• Define system requirements for satellites, gateways, network functions, and terminals.
• Develop and validate RF and optical link budgets and performance analyhirify.global covering latency, Doppler, handover, and availability.
• Support 5G NTN integration, ground-system design, system verification and validation, simulations, and test campaigns.
• Analyze network operations, mobility management, beam hopping, constellation management, technical risks, margins, and trade studies while coordinating with internal teams, customers, partners, and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• For the Senior position, 8+ years of SATCOM system engineering experience with demonstrated ownership of complex systems.
• Excellent knowledge of satellite communications technologies, system sizing, link budgets, and satellite communications architectures across space and ground segments.
• Strong proficiency in link analysis, system modeling, and performance trade studies.
• Very good knowledge of telecommunication payload systems and experience with system modeling tools such as MATLAB or Python custom simulations.
• Experience integrating satellite systems with terrestrial telecommunications networks and working across requirements, design, integration, test, and operations.
• Experience with MEO and/or LEO constellations, including constellation dynamics and handover concepts.
• Knowledge of 5G or LTE networking principles applied to NTN or hybrid networks, 3GPP 5G NTN standards, free-space optical telecommunications, and satellite regulatory and spectrum considerations.
• Prior involvement in AIT, IOT, or operational satellite networks.
• Eligibility for ESA/EU SECRET personal security clearance is essential, and candidates must be prepared to undergo the clearance procedure.
• Fluent English is required.
