Lead Instructor: Data Annotation (Somali Speaking)

Location: Remote and open to candidates anywhere, provided they can reliably teach during East Africa Time (EAT) program hours

What you will do

• Prepare and lead live virtual lectures and hands-on demonstrations using the provided Data Annotation curriculum.
• Teach learners to perform text, speech, audio, image and video annotation, including guideline interpretation, quality checks and error correction.
• Evaluate dialogue and AI outputs, explain annotation workflows, and help learners create practical portfolio projects.
• Manage Q&A, chat, pacing and engagement for learners with different starting points.
• Collaborate with the operations team and Teaching Assistants, attend pre-lecture meetings and weekly check-ins, and contribute to lesson improvement.

Requirements

• Professional working proficiency in both Somali and English, spoken and written, with the ability to teach technical content in both languages.
• 5+ years of professional experience in data annotation, data labeling, AI training data, data quality or machine learning operations, including team lead, reviewer or quality assurance responsibility.
• A relevant degree, such as computer science, information systems, linguistics or data science, or equivalent industry experience.
• Expertise in multimodal data labeling; interpreting, applying and improving annotation guidelines; dialogue and AI output evaluation; quality checks, accuracy and consistency metrics; root cause analysis; and confidential and secure data handling.
• Knowledge of how labeled data is used to train AI, including machine learning, generative AI and responsible AI fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with annotation and labeling platforms.
• Teaching or training experience with adult learners, ideally remotely and with beginners.
• Ability to make complex topics accessible, with energy and patience.
• Comfort with Zoom, Pumble or Slack and online learning platforms.
• Professionalism, respectful communication, responsiveness, empathy and the ability to apply learner feedback.

Nice to have

• AWS Certified AI Practitioner (AIF-C01) or an equivalent AI certification.
• Arabic proficiency and familiarity with Maay and standard Somali.
• Familiarity with the Somali context, including education access, connectivity and remote work.
• Experience working in or hiring for remote or freelance annotation and AI data roles.
