Engineer II, Assay Automation (Scientific Instrumentation)

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States; onsite work in R&D, laboratory, light-manufacturing, and engineering office environments

Annual base salary: $88,100–$134,400, plus potential discretionary or non-discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Support cross-functional design and development of automated assay methods for MSD and other instrumentation.
• Develop, integrate, troubleshoot, and optimize software sequences for automated assay protocols.
• Characterize hardware and subsystem performance through experimental and analytical testing.
• Develop and execute system design verification, validation, and hardware reliability test plans.
• Document failure modes, effects, and criticality analyses; define system requirements and specifications with partner teams.
• Generate and implement change orders supporting product design and process improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least five years of experience with scientific or medical instrumentation and at least five years of experience developing and troubleshooting automated assay methods.
• Knowledge of data analysis tools such as MATLAB, Minitab, or similar.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering computing software.
• Working knowledge of analytical techniques, experimental design, and statistical analysis.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, technical writing, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage deadlines, coordinate substantial activity, multitask, and work through changing priorities and constraints.
• Ability to communicate issues, problems, and results affecting project timelines, accuracy, and reliability.
• Ability to work in office and laboratory environments and use required equipment.

Nice to have

• Experience in an ISO cGMP environment.
