R&D Site Lead (Quantum Computing)

Location: London, UK; hirify.global is opening an R&D site in Edinburgh, UK. Hybrid setup with flexible hours.

hirify.global builds full-stack quantum computers and systems for computational challenges beyond the practical limits of classical machines, working across quantum hardware, software, and research partnerships.

What you will do

• Build the UK R&D site from scratch, establishing ways of working, facilities, IT, compute, partner access, and local culture.
• Recruit, line-manage, and develop the first engineers and scientists, followed by team leads as the site scales.
• Lead integration of hirify.global quantum systems with HPC environments, including hybrid quantum-classical workflows, real-time decoding, and control-stack integration.
• Manage day-to-day R&D relationships with the UK HPC centre and quantum error correction partner, including work plans, technical meetings, integration, testing, and benchmarking.
• Coordinate IP, data, publications, and know-how transfer with hirify.global’s IP team and collaboration partners.
• Own the site budget, forecasts, milestone reporting, delivery governance, and connection of UK results to hirify.global’s global roadmap and products.

Requirements

• 5+ years leading R&D teams, including building a team from scratch and scaling it; experience hiring, onboarding, line-managing, and developing people is required.
• Strong quantum computing background with depth in quantum error correction and/or quantum hardware and control systems, from industry or academia.
• Understanding of HPC environments and hybrid quantum-classical computing requirements, including software integration, scheduling, and low-latency classical processing.
• Experience with collaborative R&D projects, including budgets, milestone reporting, cost compliance, and resource planning across organisations.
• PhD in physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent research depth.
• Ability to solve problems proactively and explain complex work clearly to technical partners, funding bodies, hirify.global leadership, and the wider quantum community.

• Existing network in the UK quantum and HPC ecosystem.
• Hands-on experience with real-time decoding, control-stack integration, or hybrid workflows on HPC systems.
