Development Architect (IoT)

Location: Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom; hybrid remote

What you will do

• Define, design, and implement major parts of the Digital team’s software architecture, from code-level reviews through data models, components, and module integration.
• Build, maintain, optimize, and enhance real-time IoT tracking systems supporting current and future supply-chain monitoring devices.
• Design scalable, high-performance enterprise applications and integrations with ERP, supply-chain planning, cloud, and other enterprise systems.
• Research technologies and deliver technical designs and artefacts across integrated platforms, including conceptual work, reviews, troubleshooting, and coding.
• Establish technical priorities, provide architectural guidance, and align designs with business goals, economic viability, stage gates, and milestones.
• Lead code reviews, technically influence development groups, and mentor junior developers while collaborating with designers, product managers, and QA testers.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of software development experience, or proven exceptional software design contributions in previous positions.
• Deep practical experience across multiple software technologies, ideally including web user interfaces, algorithm development, database technologies, event-based systems, and modular, extensible data models.
• Hands-on expertise in multiple programming languages, primarily Go and SQL/Postgres; Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript are helpful.
• Experience owning major application modules technically, deploying them to customers, and supporting customer go-live.
• Experience technically influencing software developers toward a common goal with a successful outcome.
• Substantial software development and design expertise with large, complex systems, ideally in enterprise software, real-time applications, supply-chain management, or geographical information systems.
• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, science, engineering, statistics, or mathematics; proven software development success is valued more highly than formal education.
• Strong understanding of enterprise applications, cloud computing, algorithms on large datasets, event-driven data processing, user-interface technologies, and performance design for large-scale systems.
• Excellent communication skills, technical leadership across complex software projects, understanding of enterprise technology trends, and the ability to coach and mentor others.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field.
• Knowledge of supply-chain and logistics applications.
• Experience with Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript.
