TL;DR
Embedded Systems Engineer (AI Hardware): Building firmware and systems software for rack management, BMCs, board controllers, and embedded AI hardware with an accent on reliability, observability, secure updates, and recovery. Focus on hardware bring-up, integrating drivers and runtime libraries, and designing predictable power-on, monitoring, provisioning, and failure-recovery flows across bare metal, RTOS, and embedded Linux.

Location: London - JJ Mack; Bristol - The Crescent

Company

hirify.global develops chips and systems designed to accelerate inference for frontier AI models, including rack-scale hardware and control software.

What you will do

  • Develop firmware and services for rack management, BMC, and board/device controllers across bare metal, RTOS, and embedded Linux.
  • Build board and rack management systems from hardware bring-up through production deployment.
  • Implement power-on, provisioning, monitoring, telemetry, updates, recovery, and security flows that keep device fleets healthy.
  • Integrate with host and device stacks, including drivers and runtime libraries, to provide end-to-end operation.
  • Work with hardware and device software teams to define interfaces, validate behaviour, and debug boundary issues.

Requirements

  • Proven experience shipping production-critical, reliable embedded systems across at least two of bare metal, RTOS, and embedded Linux, or deep expertise in one with the ability to ramp up on the others.
  • Strong C and/or Rust skills, with sound engineering judgement around safety, testing, debugging, and failure modes.
  • Reliability-first approach focused on observability, diagnosability, predictable recovery paths, and testability.
  • Experience working close to the hardware/software boundary, including bootloaders, BSP, or kernel-adjacent work, and collaborating with hardware, driver, and runtime teams.
  • Collaborative, high-ownership working style with clear communication and willingness to solve difficult problems with others.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Maths, Physics, or a related subject, plus 3+ years of industry experience.

Nice to have

  • Embedded platform or systems firmware experience, including board management, BMC-style stacks, or rack controllers.
  • OpenBMC or embedded Linux image build and customisation experience.
  • Zephyr or similar RTOS experience.
  • Practical security experience or instincts around secure boot, signed updates, device identity, fail-safe design, and clean recovery.
  • Kernel device work involving drivers, device tree, bring-up, performance, or tracing.
  • Hardware bring-up experience with logic analysers, oscilloscopes, or waveform viewers.
  • RISC-V familiarity and experience with GPUs or ML accelerators.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time role in London or Bristol.
  • Private medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Contributory pension, 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays, and life/critical illness insurance.
  • Meaningful equity and ownership participation.
  • Diverse and inclusive office environment with a commitment to equal employment opportunity.
  • Some roles may require additional eligibility checks because the work is subject to UK, US, and other international export control regulations.
