Staff/Principal Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States; periodic travel may be required for internal and external business needs.

Total compensation: USD $275,000–$325,000, including base and variable compensation.

What you will do

• Define the technical direction of financing products and guide architecture across front-end applications, back-end services, data systems, and integrations.
• Lead complex engineering initiatives from problem definition and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production validation.
• Build financial workflows and journaled systems that preserve data accuracy, integrity, traceability, and auditability.
• Assess existing systems and decide what to retain, modernize, or replace while balancing business value, delivery speed, reliability, and maintainability.
• Use AI coding tools to investigate systems, implement and refactor code, develop tests, and validate correctness, security, and maintainability.
• Establish engineering practices and collaborate with engineering, product, business, sales, and executive stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience using .NET, Java, or similar languages, including experience leading complex technical initiatives.
• Experience rebuilding or substantially modernizing an established production platform, including architectural decisions and transition of existing customers, data, or business workflows.
• Experience with both front-end and back-end product development, with depth in one or more areas.
• High proficiency with relational databases such as MS-SQL, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
• Familiarity with cloud-native solutions and their deployment requirements.
• Experience with software testing practices and validation of complex business workflows.
• Ability to translate business and product objectives into technical solutions and evaluate cost, delivery, risk, and maintainability tradeoffs.
• Experience using AI coding tools and independently verifying generated solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience with financial systems or systems requiring high data accuracy.
• Experience developing and operating software in a highly regulated environment.
• Experience with distributed messaging systems such as RabbitMQ or Amazon SQS, or event-streaming platforms such as Kafka or Apache Pulsar.
