Test Automation Developer (Embedded Systems)

Location: Hybrid position based in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada

Salary: CAD 90,000–105,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop, optimize, and debug test automation libraries and scripts for smoke, functional, and non-functional testing through embedded-system APIs and user interfaces.
• Automate verification of embedded software across multiple hardware variants and account for hardware-specific behavior.
• Build and configure utilities, interfaces, test environments, frameworks, and harnesses with QA, development teams, and the Test Automation Lead.
• Analyze requirements and provide feedback on their quality and completeness.
• Identify automation candidates, estimate effort and ROI, and create reports, analysis, and recommendations from test results.
• Help troubleshoot defects, influence automation strategy and prioritization, and participate in Scrum and team meetings.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of hands-on software development experience.
• Proficiency in one or more object-oriented languages, such as Python, Java, C++, or C#.
• Experience with back-end or front-end development for desktop, web, mobile, or cross-platform applications.
• Strong Linux proficiency, including command-line tools, process management, system diagnostics, log analysis, shell scripting, and performance troubleshooting.
• Ability to investigate and debug complex software, system, and automation issues across application, operating-system, and infrastructure layers.
• Experience with low-level APIs or SDKs, agile and waterfall environments, version-control software, and CI/Jenkins; Git is preferred for version control.
• Strong exposure to test automation frameworks and understanding of the SDLC.
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment, prioritize and multitask under tight timelines, and develop solutions for project needs.
• Strong written and oral communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, and meticulous attention to detail.

Nice to have

• UI automation, Python, Docker, networking, JavaScript development, or scripting experience.
• Experience with Perforce Helix ALM, Jira, MS Test Manager, or HP Quality Center.
• Exposure to cybersecurity or resilience testing, penetration testing techniques, and tools such as Burp Suite, Hetty, or Nmap.
• Experience testing projection or video display technologies, including LED, laser, 4K, or high-dynamic-range displays.
