Director, Domain Enterprise Architect (AI)

Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; Toronto, Ontario is also listed as an available location. Hybrid work is offered, with flexibility to work from the office and virtually based on business and client needs.

Salary range: CAD 135,000–195,000 per year, plus an eligible discretionary bonus program.

What you will do

• Define and maintain enterprise AI domain strategy, target-state architecture, reference models, standards, principles, policies, guardrails, and multi-year roadmaps.
• Align AI investments across global business units, identify duplication and fragmentation, and guide reuse, consolidation, and scalable enterprise platforms.
• Lead AI architecture governance, approved technology and pattern management, exception handling, and controls for autonomy, human oversight, security, risk, and compliance.
• Advise executives and governance bodies on AI opportunities, risks, investment planning, and architectural direction.
• Establish Responsible AI principles covering transparency, explainability, accountability, privacy, model governance, regulatory expectations, and human oversight.
• Build the AI architecture community, track investment value and adoption, and evolve roadmaps based on measurable outcomes and stakeholder feedback.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 10+ years of architecture leadership experience, including 5+ years leading enterprise AI, data, analytics, digital transformation, or emerging technology domains.
• Experience defining enterprise technology strategies and roadmaps, leading enterprise-wide architecture programs, and managing governance functions.
• Experience influencing senior executives and large-scale investment decisions.
• Experience in highly regulated industries, preferably insurance, wealth management, banking, or financial services.
• Deep expertise in Generative AI, Agentic AI, automation, large language models, AI platforms, orchestration frameworks, and enterprise AI operating models.
• Strong understanding of architecture governance, roadmaps, standards management, risk, security, and business capability planning.
• Exceptional executive communication, facilitation, negotiation, stakeholder management, planning, prioritization, and governance management skills.
• Ability to connect AI investments to business outcomes, productivity, client experience, operational efficiency, and risk reduction.
