Data Architect (Snowflake)

What you will do

• Design the architecture, standards, modeling patterns, naming conventions, and platform structure for a trustworthy BI analytics platform.
• Establish end-to-end, column-level data lineage, maintained catalogs, and business glossaries so metrics are traceable and auditable.
• Design PII classification and protection controls, including tagging, masking, row access policies, least-privilege RBAC, retention, and deletion rules.
• Define data SLAs, SLOs, freshness targets, monitoring, and alerting, and architect reliable ingestion, transformation, orchestration, backfill, and failure-recovery patterns.
• Own schema reviews, versioning, change management, design reviews, architecture decision records, and design documentation.
• Partner with analysts, BI developers, business leaders, Security, Legal, and Compliance; mentor data and analytics engineers and enforce quality practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, architecture, or warehousing, including 3+ years as the accountable architect.
• Expert SQL and working fluency in Python.
• Production experience running Snowflake or an equivalent platform at scale, including RBAC, masking, row access policies, object tagging, resource monitors, and cost management.
• Expertise in dimensional/Kimball and normalized data modeling; Data Vault knowledge is preferred.
• Experience handling regulated and PII data through classification, minimization, masking or tokenization, retention, and deletion in line with regulations such as CCPA, GDPR, or SOC 2.
• Experience defining and meeting data SLAs, with monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
• Proficiency with Git workflows, code review, CI/CD, automated testing, environment promotion, and infrastructure as code.
• Ability to lead through influence, challenge risky shortcuts, explain trade-offs, and build trust with engineering and business stakeholders.
• Ability to adapt quickly to new tools and technologies, with strong systems thinking and engineering judgment.

Nice to have

• Experience with dbt, Terraform, and Airflow or Dagster.
• Experience with data catalog tools such as Atlan, Alation, Collibra, or DataHub.
