Staff and Senior Software Engineers (Data Infrastructure)

Location: On-site five days per week in the Cambridge, MA or New York, NY office; applicants must be eligible to work in the US.

Annual salary: $228,960–$363,510 plus target equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Build and scale data infrastructure supporting personalized recommendations, music discovery, analytics, experimentation, and machine learning.
• Design streaming pipelines that transform user interactions and content signals into fresh recommendation features.
• Develop offline and online feature infrastructure with strong consistency, reliability, latency, and freshness characteristics.
• Own streaming and batch architecture using AWS and Snowflake, including performance, cost, observability, and automated recovery improvements.
• Define event schemas, data contracts, ingestion patterns, schema evolution, data quality, and pipeline reliability standards with backend, ML, data, and product engineers.
• Lead technical design, drive architecture across teams, own systems through production operation, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, data infrastructure, or distributed systems.
• Strong programming skills, preferably in Python, with experience building and operating production-grade distributed systems.
• Deep experience with real-time streaming and batch processing systems.
• Experience building data or serving infrastructure for recommendations, personalization, search, or similar ML-powered product experiences.
• Understanding of feature computation, online/offline data consistency, and production ML latency and freshness requirements.
• Experience with streaming and cloud data infrastructure such as Flink, Kinesis, Kafka, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience designing reliable and observable systems with monitoring, logging, alerting, and recovery.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, schema evolution, and data quality, plus the ability to collaborate with ML, data, and product engineering teams in ambiguous environments.
• Strong ownership and a record of delivering scalable infrastructure and improving engineering practices.

Nice to have

• Excitement about music, creativity, AI, and the infrastructure supporting music creation and discovery.
• Experience with AWS Kinesis, Firehose, Lambda, S3, and Glue.
• Experience with Snowflake or a similar cloud data warehouse, including performance and cost optimization.
• Experience with Dagster, Airflow, or similar orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with dbt and Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
