Associate Scientist (12 Month FTC)

What you will do

• Conduct bench-scale chemical syntheses, process development experiments, reaction profiling, and laboratory-scale development of drug substance routes.
• Operate reaction stations, automated reactors, parallel synthesis tools, purification systems, and other standard laboratory equipment.
• Perform analytical characterization and reproducible testing using HPLC, GC, MS, spectrometric, chromatographic, and related techniques.
• Record procedures, observations, raw data, and analytical results in Electronic Lab Notebooks and designated digital platforms.
• Support analytical instrumentation maintenance, laboratory documentation, and procedure updates.
• Work with project chemists, analytical teams, and multidisciplinary laboratory colleagues while escalating anomalous observations.

Requirements

• Higher qualification such as HND, BSc, or equivalent in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with small-scale chemical synthesis, reaction setup, standard separation techniques, and product characterization.
• Competence in routine laboratory experimentation and analytical testing under established SOPs and methodologies.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, or equivalent office applications.
• Ability to assess chemical hazards, follow Risk Assessments and COSHH guidelines, handle hazardous materials at small scale, and maintain a compliant workspace.
• High precision in experimental execution, observation, data logging, and electronic record-keeping.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn analytical methodologies, technologies, and standard procedures.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary laboratory team.
• Ability to comply with applicable cGxP requirements and maintain a current training curriculum.

Nice to have

• MChem, MSc, or equivalent advanced coursework in synthetic organic chemistry, process chemistry, or analytical chemistry.
• Familiarity with applied statistical methods or Design of Experiments in a chemical or scientific environment.
• Basic familiarity or developing interest in AI-assisted scientific tools, predictive modelling, or automated laboratory software.
• Experience with predictive modelling workflows or AI applications in chemical synthesis or analytics.
