Research Associate in Organic Synthesis

Salary: £38,448–£46,970 per annum depending on experience

What you will do

• Design, plan and conduct research in organic synthesis and methodology development.
• Establish new transformations for the skeletal editing of sugar scaffolds.
• Develop and optimise synthetic transformations, investigating reaction scope and limitations.
• Isolate and fully characterise reaction products using appropriate analytical and spectroscopic techniques.
• Collaborate with the research team and manage project activities, including report writing.

Requirements

• PhD in organic chemistry with a research focus on organic synthesis and/or synthetic methodology development.
• Experience developing innovative synthetic methods or experimental protocols, including devising, optimising and troubleshooting organic reactions.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a flexible approach to research problems.
• Excellent written and oral interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Prior experience in carbohydrate chemistry is not essential.
• Transferable skills and real-world experience are valued alongside formal qualifications.
