Senior Technical Lead - AI Product Engineering (CMH Health)

Location: Hybrid role with on-site work preferred in Chicago, IL, Milwaukee, WI, or Hartford, CT; remote candidates will be considered. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future immigration support or sponsorship.

Salary: $131,600–$249,780 overall; $151,340–$249,780 in specified higher-pay locations and $131,600–$217,200 in all other locations.

What you will do

• Set technical direction for AI-enabled healthcare products, including architecture, service boundaries, APIs, data models, integrations, and delivery sequencing.
• Translate business and actuarial workflows into executable technical plans, manage dependencies and delivery commitments, and communicate scope, budget, and timing risks.
• Build verification into delivery through automated tests, data-quality controls, regression checks, AI evaluation, and workflow-level acceptance evidence.
• Improve production readiness through deployment, monitoring, rollback, support, failure investigation, and targeted reductions in manual intervention.
• Guide accountable use of coding agents and other AI-assisted development tools, including generated-code review, context management, evaluation, and human oversight.
• Develop engineers through delegation, design and code review, coaching, reusable engineering capabilities, and close collaboration with product, consulting, domain, and control partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 6 years of relevant experience in software engineering, data-intensive systems, platform engineering, or closely related work.
• At least 2 years in a technical lead, staff engineer, or similar role involving technical direction, delivery ownership, and developing others.
• Strong production-software engineering skills, including inspecting, debugging, and improving implementations.
• Experience designing and operating cloud-based systems on Azure or a comparable platform, including deployment, identity and access, observability, and operational reliability.
• Strong understanding of SQL, data modeling, APIs, and cross-system integration.
• Sound judgment about testing, data integrity, security boundaries, failure modes, and release evidence.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools and disciplined validation of their output.
• Experience leading substantial technical work through delivery while managing dependencies, scope, stakeholder expectations, and technical communication.
• Curiosity about the business behind software and willingness to learn complex healthcare and actuarial workflows.

Nice to have

• Azure services, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, or Databricks.
• Healthcare analytics, claims data, actuarial systems, or another regulated, data-intensive domain.
• Production AI-enabled workflows with evaluation datasets, traceability, and appropriate human review.
