Senior Mechanical Engineer (Defense)

Location: Franklin, Massachusetts, United States; onsite at the Franklin, MA facility

Salary: $110,000–$147,500 USD per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain military and commercial hardware products, including ruggedized maritime electronics, robotic ground vehicles, vehicle autonomy hardware, and ground robots.
• Provide hands-on mechanical design and product support for DOD pre-production and production programs.
• Create 3D CAD models, layouts, production drawings, and electromechanical assembly designs.
• Lead engineering change activities, including design updates, checking, approval, and disposition of non-conforming material.
• Perform system-level tolerance analysis, support cost estimation, and interface with vendors, customers, and project stakeholders.
• Lead and guide other engineers, facilitate formal design reviews, and oversee project design tasks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a similar engineering discipline.
• 5–12 years of mechanical design experience across the full product lifecycle, from concept through production.
• Experience with all phases of design and development and with transitioning prototype projects into production.
• Experience processing engineering changes to documentation on DOD programs.
• Experience in metal fabrication design, electromechanical hardware design, and manufacturing techniques.
• Proficiency with 3D solid-modeling software, specifically PTC Creo and/or SolidWorks.
• Experience creating detailed drawings and applying geometric tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
• Direct technical lead experience managing design tasks, plus strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; must be able to obtain a DOD security clearance.

• Experience with Model Based Definition.
• Experience designing hardware for DOD maritime programs.
