Software Engineer II (Observability)

Location: Hybrid in Hartford, CT, United States; other listed locations include St. Paul, MN and Hunt Valley, MD.

Annual base salary: $123,400–$203,600, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Improve observability posture, application reliability, and mean-time-to-resolution across application and agentic systems.
• Analyze, design, develop, configure, and document observability solutions and technical requirements.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code for Dynatrace configuration, onboarding, and monitoring workflows.
• Translate business processes into business-impact dashboards and alerting requirements.
• Analyze and resolve advanced defects and incidents, including appropriate escalation.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced employees and advise application teams on observability adoption.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related STEM field, or equivalent education and/or work experience.
• Four years of programming/development experience plus four additional years of software engineering experience.
• Deep, hands-on experience with Dynatrace SaaS, including Gen3 apps, DQL, workflows, and alert configurations.
• Hands-on OpenTelemetry experience, including instrumentation and semantic conventions.
• Infrastructure-as-Code experience with Terraform; observability platform experience is preferred.
• Experience with incident response, including triage, root cause analysis, and post-mortems, and with advising engineering teams on observability adoption.
• Experience with AI-assisted coding tools, containerized platforms such as Kubernetes and Docker, and cloud engineering; AWS is preferred.
• Proficiency with Git/GitHub and CI/CD tooling; ability to write automation and tooling code using Python and/or JavaScript/Node.js.
• Familiarity with Linux systems and shell scripting, plus intermediate delivery and leadership skills, strong problem-solving ability, and clear communication.
