Platform Engineer 2 (m/f/d) (AI)

Location: Cologne, Germany; remote work possible. Up to 20 work-from-home days per year may be taken anywhere in the EU.

What you will do

• Build, configure, and maintain Microsoft Azure platform infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Operate and improve Azure Databricks, including automation, monitoring, access management, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Operate the Azure Kubernetes-based Data & AI platform and support service deployment, management, and scaling through GitOps and CI/CD.
• Implement platform capabilities according to architecture patterns, security requirements, and engineering standards.
• Develop reusable automation and self-service capabilities for engineering, Data, and AI teams.
• Monitor platform health, resolve standard operational issues, collaborate across Platform, Data, AI, MLOps, and Security, and contribute to documentation and design discussions.

Requirements

• Hands-on Microsoft Azure experience and understanding of compute, networking, storage, identity, and security.
• Practical experience with containers and Kubernetes, including deployment and operation of containerized workloads.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, specifically Terraform, and standard deployment pipelines with Git-based development and delivery workflows.
• Familiarity with logging, monitoring, and troubleshooting production or platform environments, with the ability to resolve common operational issues independently.
• Experience with at least one programming or scripting language such as Python, Go, or Shell for infrastructure automation and platform tooling.
• Familiarity with Azure Databricks or similar Data & AI platforms, or strong motivation to develop hands-on expertise in this area.
• Basic understanding of Data, Machine Learning, or AI workloads and the infrastructure supporting them.
• Ability to take ownership, organize work independently, communicate progress and challenges, and ask for input on unfamiliar or complex topics.
• Fluency in English and the ability to collaborate with engineers and stakeholders and explain technical topics clearly.
